How to Engage kids during pandemic.
Growing Fenugreek
Being a parent of 2 young kids, it has been a challenge engaging kids during this pandemic situation. Kids were unable to attend their regular activities or play with their friends. Both my kids like outdoor activities.
I started ordering a lot of Art and Crafts kits, books, and STEM related activity kits. While kids enjoyed these activities, I was looking to engage them in activities that would keep them active physically and mentally.
When I was watering plants in my patio garden, my elder one started helping me with it daily. I realized this could be a perfect activity for her. To my surprise, she was very curious about different seeds I was using and how they would turn to plants.
I started with a few seeds from the kitchen. Fenugreek was the first one . There are many health benefits of eating Fenugreek and at the same time it is quick, easy to grow.
Things you need:
- Fenugreek Seeds or bought it from a local Indian grocery store.
- Potting mix.
- Environment Friendly 7 inch bags or a pot.
- Garden Water Sprayer.

Process
Day 1:
You will need one cup of Fenugreek seeds. Add 2 cups of water to it. Soak it for 24 hours so that Fenugreek will absorb the water and will be ready to sprout. The same day, add potting mix upto half of the Environment Friendly bag or a pot. You can help kids with this part. Spray water twice that day. Do not over fill the environment friendly bag.
Day 2:
Take the sprouted Fenugreek and spread across the environment friendly bag or pot. Cover the Fenugreek seeds with a very little amount of potting mix. Spray water on the potting mix (Don’t overflow water.)
Day 3 onward:
Spray water in the morning, afternoon, evening, and at night. Apart from watering the plant daily, encourage kids to take some time out to observe the growth of the plant. Usually it takes upto 15 days for the fenugreek plants to grow.
Fenugreek grows very fast and will see plenty of it with just one cup of seeds used. When it is ready for harvest, encourage kids to help you with this too.
Do not forget to share the extra produce.
Very nice and happy to engage kids in a more healthy way.
